
Jenika is the Laboratory Manager for BBERG maintaining laboratory equipment and facilities, training users on preparaton and analytical equipment, and running analyses including total C and N of water samples, total hydrolyzable amino acids via HPLC, and inorganic nutrients (NO3, NO2, PO43, and NH3) using a flow-injections analyzer. She obtained a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Memorial University with a focus in biochemistry. Throughout her time as a student of Memorial she gained experience in various techniques including mammalian and bacterial cell culture (including plasmid generation, mammalian cell transfection, generation of adeno-associated viruses in vitro), RT-PCR, immunoblotting, lipid extraction and analyses, as well as some exposure to ESI-UHPLC-MS/MS, among others.
In her current role, Jenika acts to coordinate the use of the laboratory’s optical equipment (spectrophotometer and spectrofluorometer) and HPLC, as well as to conduct the majority of HPLC analyses for the research team.
