ON THE GOLDEN CIRCLE

The classic tour for short-stay visitors to Iceland is the Golden Circle, which can be completed as a day trip from Reykjavík. As such, the number of tourists at the sites quadruples. Still, as the scenery along the Circle is excellent, we used the eastern and northern segments of the Circle as our route back to Reykjavík.

The original Stóri-Geysir from which all the others are named. After years of inactivity, an earthquake in 2000 re-awoke the great geysir although its frequency of spouting isn't particularly regular

Strokkur, the neighbour of Stóri-Geysir, seen here starting to blow, spouts predictably every three minutes
