Newfoundland and Labrador Boreal Ecosystem Latitudinal Transect

Welcome to NL-BELT!

The Newfoundland and Labrador Boreal Ecosystem Latitudinal Transect is Climate Change research platform located in Western Newfoundland and South-Eastern Labrador, Canada. The four regions that make up this transect are within the boreal forest ecozone but differ in their climate, providing a platform to study the effects of climate on various aspects of these landscapes. This design helps us to understand how the forest is currently functioning across a range of climate conditions, enabling us to anticipate how forests are likely to change under the influence of a changing climate.

NL-BELT is a collaborative and multidisciplinary project. It is a joint effort between federal and provincial governments, universities, industry, and community organizations, reflecting the commitment of all parties toward a common future of healthy forests and healthy communities. The project is operated by the Corner Brook office of the Canadian Forest Service (Natural Resources Canada), located in Corner Brook, on the west coast of Newfoundland.
